Crew walking a floating walkway to a dredger at dusk

Applications

Where the
walkway works.

Tailings dams, dredging lines, wetlands, corrosive water and pump platforms. One modular walkway, configured for each site.

Application 01

Mine tailings dams

The problem
Pumps, penstocks and decant points sit far out on unstable, often toxic water. Crews reach them by boat or improvised catwalks.
The walkway
A stable 1.5 m wide walkway with an R 13 non-slip deck carries people, pumps and pipework out to the work, with platforms where needed.

Application 02

Marine dredging

The problem
A dredger moves. A rigid walkway twists, cracks and breaks away from it.
The walkway
The folding pivot walkway bends about 12° per section and follows the dredger, with a 20,000 kg pull load on the dredging pivot.

Application 03

Wetlands and corrosive water

The problem
Acid, alkaline and oily water eat steel and crack plastic floats.
The walkway
FRP, 316 stainless and aluminium with HDPE floats, resistant from pH 2 to 12, UV and petroleum.

Application 04

Pipe support and pump platforms

The problem
Pumps and pipelines need a floating base that stays level under load.
The walkway
The 3 m × 3 m heavy lift section gives about 1,750 kg of buoyancy, and the walkway carries pipes and cable trays alongside the deck.

01  / Why Xrosswater

Industrial first.
Never a leisure dock in disguise.

Most walkways on mine sites are pump-barge add-ons, plastic leisure cubes or one-off steel builds. Xrosswater only builds industrial floating walkways, and it shows in six places.

01

500 m

per 40 ft container

Ships like no other walkway

Supplied in component form, 500 m × 1.5 m of walkway travels in a single 40 ft container. Freight that takes others a convoy of trucks arrives as one box.

02

pH 2–12

acid to alkaline

Made for water that eats steel

FRP, 316 stainless and aluminium with unsinkable HDPE floats. No foam, no polystyrene, no plastic cubes that crack in UV or tailings.

03

R 13

non-slip deck, DIN 51130

Safety infrastructure for tailings

Tailings standards demand safe, routine access to pumps, penstocks and decant points. A stable 1.5 m wide deck replaces improvised catwalks and boats.

Delivered where others can't

Lifted by helicopter into the Amazon, trucked up ice roads in Arctic Canada, built at the edge of the Sahara. Remote sites are the normal job.

Works with your pump and your engineer

We build walkways, not pump barges. The walkway carries the pumps, pipes and cables you choose, alongside consulting engineers such as Paterson & Cooke.

06

Re-melt

value at end of life

Value that comes back

Aluminium keeps a recoverable re-melt value and every section can be dismantled and reused, so site clean-up costs stay low after the job.

Only 67% of the 836 tailings facilities run by ICMM members fully met the global tailings safety standard by August 2025. Safe, stable access to the pond is part of closing that gap.
